A native of Aiken, South Carolina, Jade is one woman on a mission.  Graduating from the University of South Carolina Columbia with a Bachelor’s in Electronic Journalism, she is now pursuing her Doctorate in Physical Therapy taking prerequisite courses at the University of South Carolina Aiken.  But that’s only one part of the strategic puzzle to her life.  At twenty-five years of age, Jade is now a nine year survivor of Lupus.  The type that she has is SLE or Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. While many have Lupus, it affects every individual differently, even those with the same type.  Jade has been hospitalized a number of times, battling drops in her blood platelet count.  A low blood platelet count can lead to a number of issues including, but not limited to, internal bleeding, fatigue, or death.  In December, her doctor informed her that she needed to lose 30 to 50 pounds as soon as possible!  Weight contributes a huge deal to your health.  In her case, the extra weight could lead to different types of arthritis, knee replacements, and many more issues.  SHE HAS NOW REACHED HER GOAL!

Today, Jade has embarked on a mission to spread Lupus awareness across South Carolina and the CSRA regions of Georgia.  Her mission/campaign is called Give Lupus Royal Treatment.  Despite starting two months ago to raise funding toward finding a cure for Lupus, Jade has raised over $3,000.  However, she gives all credit to God and his ability to surround her with so many supporting faces.

Currently, Give Lupus Royal Treatment continues in its efforts to spread Lupus Awareness.  Partnering with campaigns such as the L Hand Sign or non-profit organizations such as The Purple Rose Foundation, Jade continues to embark on new journeys.  After speaking with the University of South Carolina Columbia’s Upward Bound program, she now hopes to speak with more elementary, middle, and high school students on Lupus and the importance of staying healthy.
